Millions of workers are victims of workplace violence, ranging from threats and verbal abuse to physical assaults and homicide.
Workplace danger signals could include references to firearms, to incidents of violence, alcohol or drug abuse, mood swings and sexual harassment.
Employers must establish a zero-tolerance policy toward workplace violence against or by their employees and provide training so employees know what conduct is not acceptable, how to protect themselves, and what to do if they are victims.
Finally, management should ensure they respect employees' rights and their reasonable expectation of privacy when implementing safety procedures.
Safety is as simple as ABC…ALWAYS BE CAREFUL.
