Security

The Safety Professional’s role has always included recognizing and preventing known workplace risks such as equipment vandalism, property theft and questionable package deliveries, but since 9/11 terrorism presents a new workplace hazard.

Protecting workers and the workplace against known risks is a challenge; but dealing with the unexpected requires a greater cooperative team effort.

Whilemany governments are developing terrorism guidelines for businesses and the general public, a sound corresponding step by industry is to increase security vigilance and prevent unauthorized access to workplace facilities.

Certain security measures may be specific to some buildings but many will be applicable to all buildings.

Everyone must participate and take joint responsibility for workplace safety.
