Working conditions involving high air temperatures and high humidity, radiant heat sources, contact with hot objects, or strenuous physical activities can induce heat stress.
If an employee can cope with the additional heat it should cause no harm. However, the frequency of accidents appears to be higher in hot surroundings than in more moderate environmental conditions. As working in a hot environment lowers the mental alertness and physical performance of an individual, heat discomfort can cause workers to overlook safety procedures or divert their attention from hazardous tasks.
These Safety Outlines discuss, in depth, Heat Stress factors, heat stroke symptoms, preventative measures and what to do for heat-related illnesses.
