Health Care

Doctors, nurses, or physiotherapists are not the only workers resident in Health Care Centres. Hospitals also employ many non-medical support staff. However, while everyone in Health Care Centres should be trained in hazard identification procedures and be competent in on-the-job accident reporting, they also face many other hazards familiar to general industry. These include, back protection, chemical hazards, environmental safety, ergonomics, emergency preparedness, ladder safety and fall protection, patient lifting and carrying techniques, shift work and ultraviolet protection (x-rays). Most importantly, they also have to be trained in housekeeping and fire prevention. Health care personnel, face all these hazards, but also need to have the necessary first aid skills to deal with emergency on-the-job problems. One hazard not yet mentioned, but of critical importance to all, are problems caused by bloodborne pathogens. All these topic outlines are available here if you regard Health and Wellness as a major responsibility.
