Municipalities



It is important that municipalities establish adequate policies, procedures and programs to ensure their operations are conducted in a safe, efficient and effective manner. While this sounds like a "motherhood statement", some smaller municipalities may not be able to provide adequate safety training due to money problems. That is short sighted as injuries to employees may cost more, in the long-term, through sickness, disability benefits and even joint and several liability claims. Larger cities however, working with unionized workers, can and do provide adequate, effective employee safety programs. Municipal workers face every hazard normally found in industry and sometimes more. To name a few, municipalities are involved in manufacturing, construction, public works services, driving, public transport, policing, warehousing, water utilities and office safety.
